Packaging by Naoto Fukasawa

Now, I’ve never been one to bark up the tree of too many packaging designers, but I must say that this concept by Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa is fantastic.  I’ll be waiting for my hairy kiwi juice boxes. You can check out his personal website by clicking here.

SUCK UK - Mix Tape USB Drive
SuckUK Has been on my list of great companies for putting out both awesome and functional gadgets and things to give away or use on a daily basis. For any of you that remember the pleasure of sitting in front of your double-deck cassette player, pulling your hair out and pushing that cat away while it trampled over your tape collection, you’ll be totally into this thing.  Buy me one.

Giovannai Losa

You’re looking at an aluminum alloy frame handmade by master craftsman Giovanni Losa and assembled for the Bicycle Film Festival. SlamJam and Stussy Milan also teamed up to help make this project happen.

It’s like some kind of pimped out bike for a Pharaoh.

If you happen to be in Milan, you should take a peak at it in the Stüssy Store.

Things I have Learned In My Life So Far

Ok, ok, I blew this one. Stefan Sagmeister put on a show at the beginning of this year entitled “Things I Have Learned in My Life So Far.” It gave some insight into the Sagmeister’s personal diary (as the title suggests) and extended the question to the visitors of the exhibition as well.

It also acted as a launch party for his book under the same name. Thankfully, this idea has taken many other forms besides an exhibition or a book so that if you missed the show (as I did) you could experience it in a different way. I realized that I had really blown it when I saw the mini-documentary filmed by Hillman Curtis (another fantastic NYC designer and director). The School of Visual Arts also did a mini-documentary and you there is even a website where you can upload the things that you’ve come to believe in or the profound things that you have learned in your life.

What I’ve learned: when Stefan Sagmeister hosts an exhibition, I shouldn’t miss it.

Bed-Stuy Beats

I’d like to think that I am some kind of music aficionado, ha. I did try to turn people onto a sexy brown little beat maker named Maya Arulpragasam after visiting London a couple of years ago, but noone understood. “what genre is that,” what kind of music is that crap.” Now, there isn’t anyone that doesn’t know who M.I.A. is.

Anyway, enough music snobbery. My new obsession for the last few months is a Bed-Stuy native named Santogold. She’s got those catchy genre-bending beats that M.I.A. has grown up on with a Afro influence.

Whatever, its good stuff. Her album drops on April 29th supposedly.

The New CBGB’s

john-varvatos-cbgb

CBGB’s closes, John Varvatos opens. If you live in New York you should know by now that CBGB’s has finally closed. I think that pretty much symbolizes the last drop of Punk being squeezed out of the city.

Should I boycott the store? Should I go in and appreciate that Mr. Varvatos is keeping most of the original interior intact? Who knows.
